Nagarjuna: Ancient India’s Metallurgist

The chemistry of metals is described in the Rasashastra. This Rasashastra mentions the essence of various substances (metals) that can be used for healing as well as spiritual growth. Nagarjun, a philosopher, metallurgist and saint (10 BC) widely studied Mercury and its secret powers and found that it had property to dissolve all metals. While Rasashastra was a branch of Ayurveda, people began to recognize the importance of Mercury in the wake of his efforts and deep research. Essentially Rasashastra focuses on the purification, transmutation and potentiation of various metals, gemstones and herb essences.

Preparation of Parad: Purifying process of Parad

Parad in its original state is poisonous. Therefore it needs to be purified through the Vedic rituals called samskaras which involves churning Parad with several Herbs. Parad is the only metallic element that remains mixed with other elements without losing its own individuality. Vedic purifying processes like Swedan, Mardan, Murcchhan, Utthapan, and Patan help cleanse it of all of its lethal properties. Once purified, Parad turns into a spiritual elixir.

Parad has impurities listed below:
  • Naag (lead)
  • Vang (Tin)
  • Guru (overly heaviness)
  • Bhushail (water impurities),
  • Bhumij (stone, mud, gravel)
  • Girij(minerals)
  • Chapal (instability)
  • Mala (endogenous, exogenous waste)
  • Agni (intolerance to heat)
  • Vish (poison)

Parad Samhita emphasizes on the eight stages of purification called Eight Samskaras. At Chakra Yog, we follow this purification method and process the mercury in order to purify these impurities by removing Saptakanchuki. Parad once purified becomes ‘siddha parad’ which has a blue touch internally and alluring whiteness outwardly. Vedic experts at Chakra Yog churn Parad with essential herbs such as Neem leaves, turmeric, lemon and 24 different natural herbs. The Siddha Parad (Mercury mouth closed with Aghor Vidhya) is created to preprare Murthi - Badhha/Agnibadha (heat sustaining) Parad Gutika. The Gutika gives twenty four rasas and five tattvas that act as potions against all the diseases of the body.
